Our Curriculum Intent
The Curriculum offered at Finch Woods Academy is broad and balanced, relevant, and ambitious. Pupils are able to access the National Curriculum at Key Stages 2 and 3, before following more bespoke programmes of study at Key Stage 4. The curriculum is underpinned by a clear focus on literacy, numeracy, and preparation for adulthood so as to equip students with the necessary skills and attitudes to become resilient and independent young adults.
- BROAD AND BALANCED:
Pupils follow the National Curriculum at Key Stage 3 which includes a wide range of academic and practical subjects. The curriculum is carefully planned from the Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 4 so that pupils develop the essential skills and knowledge in each subject to become versatile and knowledgeable learners. At Key Stage 4, pupils have the opportunity to follow enriching courses of additional study to achieve a range of purposeful and bespoke supplementary qualifications. These are carefully tailored to the pathways that they pursue post-16.
2. RELEVANT:
Underpinning our carefully designed Curriculum are opportunities for students to develop their social and emotional, literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy skills. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development is present in each scheme of work, and Preparation for Adulthood runs throughout all aspects of the curriculum in order to enable students to develop their independence and important life skills and knowledge to succeed in the modern world.
- AMBITIOUS:
We are ambitious for all of our students, regardless of their starting point and our curriculum is adapted to ensure students of all ages, abilities and aptitudes can achieve. Finch Woods Academy staff are highly skilled at supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning in order to experience both academic and personal success.
