Performing Arts

“Actors are agents of change. A film, a piece of theatre, a piece of music, or a book can make a difference. It can change the world.” -

Alan Rickman

Performing Arts is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act. It brings together intellect and feeling, as well as enabling personal expression, reflection, and emotional development. Our Performing Arts curriculum allows students to develop a range of essential skills for life and provides an opportunity for pupils to explore the world around them in imaginative and innovative ways.

The curriculum is designed to help pupils develop knowledge and skills that are founded in performing arts, but are also transferrable across the wider school curriculum.

The curriculum is carefully planned to consider topics and ideas that are relevant to the world in which our pupils live. Pupils explore themes that facilitate an understanding of self while also developing an understanding of themselves in relation to others, community, and the wider society in which they live.

Our curriculum for Performing Arts aims to ensure that all students:

  • Develop a love for creativity and personal expression;
  • Develop a secure understanding of the skills and techniques relevant to each individual art form;
  • Develop an awareness of the diverse social, historical and cultural contexts of stimuli material;
  • Develop skills of co-operation, problem-solving, understanding of others, decision-making, and team-work;
  • Develop pupils’ self-confidence and feelings of self-worth.

Performing Arts at Finch Woods Academy is designed to engage, empower, and inspire students to develop their creative potential, communication and practical skills as well as confidence; facilitating their growth into well rounded and self-aware young adults.
