Welcome to Finch Woods Academy

We would like to welcome you to Finch Woods Academy, an multi-award winning 11-16 specialist school for pupils with social, emotional, mental health and behavioural difficulties.

Situated in Halewood we serve the communities of Knowsley including Huyton, Kirkby, Prescot and Whiston as well as neighbouring boroughs.

Ofsted Testimonials

Ofsted have rated us as good in all areas. The inspection was carried out on 20-21st June 2017:

  • Pupils’ attendance and behaviour have improved notably over the past two years. As a result, pupils’ engagement and attitudes in lessons are strengths
  • Staff have worked well together to create a safe and enriching learning environment. They have established extremely positive relationships with pupils, so that they become increasingly self-confident in lessons

Coronavirus Update



School is now open for the following children only: Year 10 pupils, children of key workers and children identified as vulnerable (including EHCP) who have been risk assessed to require additional support.

For children in Years 7-9 we have increased our online teaching offer. We are currently teaching via Zoom lessons. Please see the ‘Home Resources’ page on our website to find your online teaching timetable and relevant resources for each subject.

You will shortly be contacted with plans for September as all pupils in every year group will be expected to return as per government guidance. We look forward to welcoming all of our pupils back in the Autumn Term.
